About
It's a long story but to cut it short it all started one night while flipping channels on the TV. It was the 2000 European Gala and there was one particular skater who was floating on the ice that exact moment when the TV got turned on and he caught someone's eyes. He didn't have a name and remained just a nice memory for two months right until the Worlds came on. He was Alexei Yagudin and he was amazing on ice. The rest is history. The obsession was already there and it didn't fade away over the years like others have.
The idea of the site started more like an exercise, a way to work and have fun in the same time and although it went through several changes as the skills were improving, it stayed hidden inside a computer for more than two years.
So what brought it to life after such a long waiting? Too much free time at some moment in time actually. And then Mr. Yagudin announced his retirement from the eligible skating and that seemed to be a good time to put it on-line.
Was there really a need for another Alexei Yagudin fan's site? Probably not. But fans kept complaining about the official site for not being updated often enough, lacking in news, photos, articles, and still looking unfinished after two years of being on-line. As for the other fans' sites, and there are a few good ones out there, they were focussing more on the entertainment part.
AY unofficial, as this site will be referred as from now on, will try to have a slightly different approach on the matter and it will focus more on Mr. Yagudin's skating career and less on his private life. That's why you will find no gossips here, no rumors about who is he dating or whether he is dating or not, or the size of shoes he wears. His privacy will be respected by all means and if this means lack of spicy news then so be it.
The site will provide the following:
- a section of news to keep track with his career and the most important events in his life
- a schedule with the competitions and shows he'll be attending
- a short profile
- a section with results presenting his achievements during his eligible and professional skating career
- a list of his programs
- a list of musical pieces he used for his programs
- a gallery with photos from each of his programs, good photos hopefully
- a message board for discussion
- mailing lists to let everybody know when updates are made to the site
- a list of links to related sites
- and a modality to contact Mr. Yagudin and the
webmaster.
Initially the site was supposed to include a multimedia section with wallpapers, screensavers, music, and videos, but the idea had to be dropped because of lack of space and finances.
Also thanks to some "well-intentioned" people the Articles and Interviews sections had to be removed.
If you have anything you think it might fit here please feel free to share it with us and your contribution will be highly appreciated.
This being said thank you for taking the time to visit the site and enjoy your staying here!
